EMI: Abbey Road Not For Sale

After reports last week that EMI had put Abbey Road Studios up for sale, the British record label released a statement today that the famed studio is not in fact on the market, though EMI is looking for financial help to save it. EMI says in the statement that it received an offer for Abbey Road, where the Beatles recorded many of their hits, for “in excess of £30 million” (equivalent to about $45 million) in 2009, but turned it down, wishing to keep the studios - which have been losing money for years - under EMI ownership. According to the statement, EMI reveals (somewhat cryptically) that it is “holding preliminary discussions for the revitalization of Abbey Road with interested and appropriate third parties.” [ArtsBeat/NYT]
