No Singing Allowed at This Year’s Oscars

Oscar producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic announced at yesterday’s nominee luncheon that the artists responsible for the five tracks in this year’s Best Original Song category — Randy Newman (“Almost There” and “Down in New Orleans” from The Princess and the Frog), Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas (“Loin de Paname from Paris 36), Maury Yestin (“Take It All” from Nine), and Ryan Bingham (“The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart) — will not be invited to perform on March 7’s telecast. Instead, to streamline the show, the songs will be played in short clips set to footage from their movies. In apparent retaliation, Bingham made this face in the group photo.
