Days after a judge ruled that a defamation case against Oprah Winfrey could go to trial, Winfrey has settled the suit filed against her by Lerato Numvoyo Mzamane, the former headmistress of her Leadership Academy in South Africa. After a “personal meeting” between Winfrey and Mzamane, the two found common ground and worked out their issues “peacefully to their mutual satisfaction.” Mzamane sued Winfrey following her dismissal from the academy, after being accused by a dorm matron of abusing girls there, and claimed Winfrey had defamed her during a press conference following the scandal. Mzamane should have known the case would be dropped: Filing a suit against Winfrey and then sitting down with her for a “personal meeting” is like throwing stones at a lion from afar and then walking into its lair.
