The Hold Steady have talked up a new sound for their upcoming album, Heaven Is Whenever, but on “Rock Problems” — a Heaven track we’re premiering here — they sure feel like the old Hold Steady. Over fat power chords, Craig Finn sketches out a story full of weary bad girls, drugs, burnouts, dancing, and conversations that take place in kitchens during house parties. Sounds great to us! Along with the equally swaggering single “Hurricane J,” it’s the second Heaven song to see the light of day; you can hear the rest when Vagrant releases the album May 4.
