Industry Roundup: Kellan Lutz, Scream 4

Kellan Lutz Is A God: Twilight star and Calvin Klein underwear model Kellan Lutz will join the cast of War of the Gods, a Greek mythology epic directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell) and featuring Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto. Lutz will play Poseidon, god of the sea. Relatedly, Dev Patel signed up for a gym membership today. [Variety]

Welcome To The Empire, Bitch: Writer-producer Josh Schwartz and longtime collaborator Stephanie Savage, the masterminds behind The O.C. and Gossip Girl, are launching their own production company, Fake Empire, based at Warner Brothers TV. While television will continue to be their main focus, the company will also produce feature-length, online, music and publishing projects. If they nurture their soapy dramas about young people even half as lovingly as the Cohen family cared for Ryan, they’ll be just fine. [HR]

Scream Again: A decade after the release of Scream 3, Scream 4 will shoot this spring, as Dimension has given Wes Craven the go-ahead to direct original actors Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette, who will be joined by a group of younger actors in the movie. The film already has a release date of April 12, 2011, which means you have a year to brainstorm something snarky to text back to your friend who asks if you want to see it opening weekend “as a joke, obv.” [Variety]

Stone Gets Help: Emma Stone (Zombieland) is in talks to star in the DreamWorks adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s best-seller The Help. The story is set in Mississippi in the early 1960s and focuses on an interview a writer (Stone) conducts with a maid, whose shockingly candid answers “reverberate across the entire community.” So basically this is the story of a 1960s maid version of Megan Fox. [Variety]

Sissy Gets Serious: Sissy Spacek has signed on for her first television leading role, as the star of John Wells’ CBS medical drama centering on a team of mobile volunteer doctors. Spacek’s character was originally conceived for a male actor: a doctor who “works around the clock and expects her team to do likewise,” as she also struggles with a cancer diagnosis. Role meant for a dude, unlikable character and cancer?! This is like “Pulling a Glenn Close,” Next Level. [HR]

Pressly Finds New Home
: My Name Is Earl’s Jaime Pressly has signed on for an untitled comedy pilot for CBS from the How I Met Your Mother writing team, which revolves around an unmarried couple and their friends in Pittsburgh. Pressly will play lead actor Kyle Bornheimer’s best friend, a vet who works with him at a local zoo. Perhaps they could title this How I Went From Winning An Emmy For My Dream Role… To Playing A Chick Who Works At A Zoo. [HR]
