out on the weekend

Pretty Pictures From South by Southwest, Including Hole, Neon Indian, and Smokey Robinson

Our latest installment of Out on the Weekend takes a detour down to Austin, where all the action was this past few days anyway. As evidenced by some of the bigger acts highlighted here — including Broken Bells, Hole, Smokey Robinson, Jakob Dylan, and Stone Temple Pilots — this was the year SXSW became a can’t-miss destination for more than just the fledgling newbies and a near-necessity for all musicians carving out a living in 2010. In fact, it got so big it even sprung its own Mexican offshoot, MtyMx, a transit-troubled affair curated by local scenester Todd P. On the America’s Next Top Indie Rockers front, buzzy favorites like Neon Indian, Best Coast, Washed Out, Marina and the Diamonds, and Morning Benders were some of the bands engendering good feelings down south. For the complete SXSW experience, chow down on some barbecued chicken while clicking through.
