Broadway Theater Renamed For Sondheim As Birthday Present

Stephen Sondheim’s having a pretty awesome 80th birthday. In addition to a slew of celebratory benefits and concerts planned throughout the year, including The New York Philharmonic’s Sondheim: The Birthday Concert hosted by David Hyde Piece last week, now the composer and lyricist has been honored with a theater. Henry Miller’s Theater will be renamed the Stephen Sondheim Theater, thanks to the contributions of a small group of “Stephen Sondheim devotees” who contributed to the Roundabout Theater Company’s “musical production fund.” The theater - located on W. 43rd St. between Broadway and 6th Avenue - is set for a April 22 opening with its new name.
