Emily Blunt on Captain America Role: ‘It Just Wasn’t What I Wanted To Do Next’

After reports she turned down the role of Captain America’s girlfriend (which eventually went to relatively unknown British actress Hayley Atwell), Emily Blunt has spoken out about her reasons for passing on the offer to star alongside Chris Evans.

“I’m a big supporter of [director] Joe Johnston and I think that Captain America is going to be really fun and I gather that the story is really interesting,” she said. “It just wasn’t what I wanted to do next, to be honest… There’s definitely a high commitment level and I’m not someone who likes to plan too much ahead. That would also be an issue for me as well.”

So, the reasons you probably assumed Blunt might have for deciding not to take on the role of a comic book girlfriend in a sprawling franchise at this stage of her career are, in fact, her reasons.
