Former New York Music Critic Alan Rich Dies

Sad news: Alan Rich, who served as New York Magazine’s classical-music critic between 1968 and 1981, died on Friday of natural causes in his Los Angeles home. He was 85. Over a long career, Rich also wrote for the New York Times, the New York Herald Tribune, and Newsweek, authored several books, including 2006’s So I’ve Heard: Notes From a Migratory Music Critic, and kept a blog. Here’s a nice piece he wrote for a 1968 issue. [WP, Google Books]
