Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel Will Star a Woman

The list of iconic female action heroes isn’t all that long, and Ridley Scott is responsible for a significant portion of it: Thelma, Louise, G.I. Jane, and Alien’s Ripley. The director will try to add another character to this list, telling MTV that the lead in the Alien prequel he’s working on will be a woman (who will have big, Sigourney Weaver–size shoes to fill). The director also said the movie will be set in 2085, 30 years before the original, be concerned with “terraforming” (i.e., establishing life on lifeless places), and will require Scott to redesign the Aliens look because “the alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out.” The only thing about this that doesn’t sound promising is that we know it ends badly for all humans involved.
