Armond White: Sex and the City 2 Not As Good As Jay-Z

In line, for once, with critical consensus, Armond White disliked Sex and the City 2. But you know what he really hates? The Jay-Z–less version of “Empire State of Mind” featured on SATC2’s soundtrack, and he’s impressively found a way to make that the focus of his review: “[Jay-Z’s] “I’m the new Sinatra” boast is meant to convince himself of triumph and invulnerability but the self-coronation implies a kind of effort Carrie never exhibits. [Michael Patrick] King pretends the opposite, proposing easy materialism and that detestable class fantasy of the white Imperium that Jay-Z and [Alicia] Keys together audaciously contradict.” [N.Y.
