The Hurt Locker vs. Pirates

Voltage Pictures, the company behind Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, is planning to sue “tens of thousands, if not more,” people who downloaded the movie via BitTorrent, says the Hollywood Reporter (Locker leaked online five months before its American release last year). By our calculations, if they settle with 10,000 pirates for $3,500 (which is the average out-of-court settlement for music downloaders), they would make a whole hell of a lot more than the $15 million Locker did in theaters.
