Will an Extended Football Season Push the Oscars to Monday?

Oh no! The NFL’s owners and players are currently drawing up a new collective bargaining agreement that will extend the regular season by two games beginning in 2013 — which, reports Variety, could potentially, in theory, under exactly the right set of highly specific circumstances, put the Super Bowl on the same night as the Oscars, forcing the Academy to move their awards to a Monday (or just to a different week or whatever). “It’s obviously something we’re keeping a close eye on,” says Bruce Davis, the Academy’s terrified-sounding executive director. “Yes, it’s a concern for us.” (It’s late August, all of Hollywood is on vacation, and Variety had to either write about this today or start a Batman 3 casting rumor.)
