At last night’s opening party for Patrick Stewart and T.R. Knight’s version of David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre, Colin Quinn was nice enough to tell Vulture an amazing Gene Shalit story. Take it away, Colin: “I was drunk at Joe Allen’s and I cursed out Gene Shalit. I was mad because I had just seen Police Academy and I felt like it was such a shitty movie, and he had given it a good review. I was naïve enough to think that, you know, the fix wasn’t in on those movies. So I go, ‘Hey you,’ and I started cursing at him. They threw me out of Joe Allen’s.” And might a reconciliation ever be in the works? “If I ever meet him again, mum’s the word. I think I had a mustache at the time; it was the early eighties; Magnum P.I. was big. So he won’t recognize me.” For more embarrassing stories from celebrities, click through our Party Lines slideshow.
