Did Spike Lee Sell Out Bed-Stuy?

Teenagers doing a survey of alcohol advertisements posted in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, the neighborhood in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, found that the majority were for a Lee-endorsed Absolut Vodka campaign. The ad, designed by Lee, features a drawing of a Brooklyn stoop (à la Crooklyn) and the taglines “Absolut Brooklyn” and “A Spike Lee Collaboration.” The teenagers, who were working for the Children’s Aid Society when they did the survey, find this to be hypocritical: “He was targeting us when normally he would make movies that would uplift our community.” (We assume this teen is not referring to She Hate Me.)
