Earlier this week at the American Airlines Theater, the Casting Society of America honored Tony Kushner at the 26th annual Artios Awards, and it seemed as good a time as any to ask people about funny casting stories. Aasif Mandvi was game: “I went to an audition once where they asked me if I would bring my own snake. They wanted me to be a snake charmer, and they wanted me to bring my own turban and my own snake, if I had it. I said, ‘I don’t wear a turban.’ And they said, you know, ‘Would you bring one?’ And I said, ‘If you wear a turban, you don’t generally leave home without it. So since I don’t wear one, I don’t really own one.’ [Pause.] I did have a snake, so that was fine. I just brought my snake.” For more celebrities talking casting, click through our Party Lines slideshow.
