After a personal appeal from Harvey Weinstein (and no small amount of publicity), the MPAA unanimously overturned its decision to give Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine an NC-17 rating. The film will now rightly be released with an R rating, the uncut version of a depressing, uncomfortable sex scene, and the appeal of being the sort of raw, sexy movie that gets an NC-17 in the first place.
