Holiday Box Office: True Grit Scores

The Coen brothers!

Little Fockers came in first place at the box office this holiday weekend, making $48 million since Wednesday, with $15 million coming in on Christmas day. Still, Meet the Fockers also opened over the Christmas holiday weekend in 2004, and Little Fockers earned just 75% of what its predecessor made. So True Grit is the real winner this weekend: The Coen brothers movie came in second place at the box office, raking in $36.8 million since Wednesday, the biggest opener for a Coen brothers film ever, according to Deadline. (Maybe it was the mustache?) Tron took third place, with $20 million over the holiday weekend, bringing the movie to an $88 million total since its opening last Friday. Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader 3D came in fourth, with $10 million over the holiday weekend. And, finally, The Fighter landed in fifth, earning $8.5 million since Wednesday. Meanwhile, Yogi Bear has already been bumped out of the top five, and, as expected, Gulliver’s Travels 3D placed a disappointing seventh, earning only $7 million since its Christmas day opening.
