Carrie Fisher on John Travolta’s Sexuality: ‘I’m Sorry That He’s Uncomfortable With It’

We knew that Carrie Fisher was gay-adjacent when she famously divorced agent Bryan Lourd after he came out of the closet, but we didn’t know that she dropped this little bon mot in an issue of Out last year, when discussing what gay men shouldn’t pester straight women about: “We don’t really care that John Travolta is gay.” The Advocate was unwilling to let that very interesting statement slide, and when the magazine recently asked Fisher whether Travolta was in the right for litigating Gawker (which has published gay rumors about the star), Fisher was pretty blunt: “Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don’t care. Look, I’m sorry that he’s uncomfortable with it, and that’s all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be.” [ Advocate]
