Colin Powell Pays Tribute to Paul McCartney

The 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors were televised last night on CBS, and while they ostensibly commemorated Bill T. Jones, Jerry Herman, Merle Haggard, and Oprah Winfrey, all anyone can seem to talk about today are the various Paul McCartney tributes. On the roster: No Doubt, doing a questionably tweaked medley of Beatles jams while McCartney tries not to look like he’s grimacing; Steven Tyler, using his pre–American Idol downtime rocking “She Came in Through the Bedroom Window”; Dave Grohl and Norah Jones, turning in a stellar duet on “Maybe I’m Amazed”; and James Taylor, seen in the video here, running through “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude,” along with a giant choir and pretty much everyone else who had previously made an appearance. It’s worth your time, at the very least for a surprising cameo by former secretary of State and retired four-star general Colin Powell in the VIP box, hesitantly rocking. [Idolator]
