Update: Hollywood Puts Some Space Between Valentine, Biutiful

Today, the Weinstein Company announced that Derek Cianfrance’s busted-marriage drama Blue Valentine (in which Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams prove once and for all that love is a sham) will arrive in theaters two days early, on December 29. Also, Roadside Attractions just pushed back the release of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s cancer drama Biutiful (in which Javier Bardem attempts to put his affairs in order before his fast-approaching death) to January 28. Both movies had been scheduled to open on on the same weekend, where together their combined bleakness would definitely have caused everybody on Earth to spontaneously kill themselves, like in The Happening. [Update! Roadside tells us that Biutiful will open in New York and L.A. on December 29 after all; on January 28 it’ll expand to more theaters.] [Deadline, Playlist]
