NPH will take on the role of a swinging bachelor in Stephen Sondheim’s musical from April 7 through 9, in a New York Philharmonic production to be directed by Lonny “I have the name of a character on The Wire” Price. Harris gushed to the Times about the role, and was maybe talking sideways about his How I Met Your Mother gig? The relevant passages: “It just allows the performer a great opportunity to mine as deep as they choose. My day job requires a shallowness that will be fun to play against” and “I don’t know that [HIMYM’s] Barney has the deep-seated desire to couple up like [Company’s] Bobby probably does.
