Giancarlo Esposito at Rabbit Hole

At Rabbit Hole’s New York premiere, Vulture heard an interesting on-set anecdote about an enthused paparazzo from Giancarlo Esposito. “There was a gentleman who came and played guitar on the sidewalk,” Esposito told us. “He was a photographer who was stalking Nicole [Kidman]. And Nicole holed up in the kitchen, and she looked at me and said, ‘Who is this guy?’ And I said, ‘Well, I hate to admit it but I happen to know this photographer.’ He’s a little scary, but I know him from Spike Lee movies, and he’s always really nice. But she was really afraid of him. I said, ‘Look, don’t be afraid of him, he’s just a little nuts.’ But she was really very, very upset that day. And the police came and could not move him. It was during the last scene. And I finally got him to go. I said, ‘Steve, you know what, we’re trying to do our work. We happen to be outside, you’ve got to let us do our work, and Nicole is freaked out holed up in the kitchen. So I know you can make $20 grand off of one shot you get of her, but please, we’re old, we know each other.’ And he left. How about that? [Laughs.] That was my Academy Award performance!” For more celebrity quotes, click through our Party Lines slideshow.
