Simon Pegg and Nick Frost did Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, so when they make an alien road-trip comedy with Greg Mottola (Superbad, Adventureland) directing, you know the nerds are going to be rabid for it. Also to be inevitably charmed by Paul: anyone who would not be offended if they were to be described as “like, you know, a dude.” That means: good jokes about anal probes and spaceman balls, the brief presence of the incomparable Bill Hader, and a general air of Apatow-style male camaraderie. A potential blind spot in the theoretical demographic: anyone unwilling to accept the voice of Seth Rogen, completely unmodified, as that of an extraterrestrial life-form, even one that’s down with impromptu reggae dance parties. Posits Vulture’s Willa Paskin: “Like, that is not an alien. 100 percent. I’m sorry.”
