Steve Carell to Write Post-Office Post Office Comedy for NBC

It is described as a sweet and nostalgic take on the period of Carell’s early life as a mail carrier and centers on a small-town post office frequented by a quirky but tight-knit group of local twentysomethings. Carell has referred to his experience as a mailman in interviews, saying that he quit after a few months because his boss told him he was not very efficient.

Steve Carell is leaving The Office at the end of this season, but he’ll be sticking with NBC. He’s just signed on to write and produce a new single camera comedy for the network based on his early days as a mail carrier.Ah yes, the post office. I think we are all familiar with the tight-knit group of twentysomethings that enjoys hanging out at the local post office in our respective towns and cities. Post offices are the new bars, after all! Wasn’t that a cover story in a recent Time Out NY?

It’s not clear if Carell will be acting in the show or just writing it, but you’ve gotta assume he’ll at least have a small part.
