The Scottsboro Boys Brings the Save-Our-Show Campaign to Broadway

New York–approved musical The Scottsboro Boys closed on Sunday, but the producers aren’t letting it die that easily: A campaign is now being waged to bring it back by having fans pledge to buy $99 tickets for a return limited run in the spring. (The idea is to boost its chances at Tony nominations.) It’s the kind of thing that has worked in TV before to various degrees, namely with Jericho and Friday Night Lights (but not, unfortunately, Cavemen). If it ends up working on Broadway, too, can we bring it to pop music after that? Forcing bands to go back to the sound of their early, pre-experimental phases would be so much fun.
