DreamWorks Animation is going ahead with its first full-length animated musical, Monkeys of Bollywood, about “two monkeys who try to stop an ancient demon from conquering the world,” inspired by the epic poem The Ramayana. On board are Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire composer A.R. Rahman (“Jai Ho”!), Wicked lyricist Stephen Schwartz, and Gurinder Chadha, the director of Bend It Like Beckham, will produce. We don’t know for sure, but maybe someone involved with this project saw Nina Paley’s amazing animated Sita Sings the Blues, also inspired by the Ramayana, and got excited?
