Roger Ebert Will Wear a Prosthetic Chin on His New Show

When Roger Ebert appears on his new PBS show Ebert Presents at the Movies, he’ll be looking both different and more familiar than ever. After part of his jaw was removed in 2006 during a battle with thyroid cancer, Ebert’s appearance was changed drastically enough that the veteran film critic “studiously avoided looking … in a mirror,” he wrote this week. “In my mind my face was still whole.” Now, though, he’ll be fitted with a facial prosthetic that will cover the affected area, and as you can see from the picture, it’s quite a dapper one.
