We were already excited about the new NBC drama project REM because it’s from the brain of Kyle Killen, the creator of gone-too-soon Lone Star (as well as Mel Gibson’s upcoming The Beaver). Now there’s another reason to keep this show on our development radar: Vulture hears that Howard Gordon, longtime show-runner of 24, is having conversations about joining Killen as an executive producer of the REM pilot. After a decade of keeping Jack Bauer’s various stories straight, Gordon knows a thing or two about building byzantine plot constructions that don’t feel too complicated. That would come in handy on REM, since the show is about a detective who ends up dealing with alternate realities after a tragic car accident. Our spies caution that there’s no deal yet for Gordon to join REM and note that the writer/producer is currently busy putting the finishing touches on his buzzworthy Showtime pilot Homeland, which stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, but here’s hoping.
