If The Social Network taught us anything, it’s that Facebook is excellent for crushing dreams and pitting friends against each other. Now, it will have the opportunity to do that to the contestants of American Idol: EW reports that in addition to collecting votes via phone call and text message, Idol producers are building a dedicated page where Facebook users can vote up to 50 times for their favorite Idol contestant. You may remember that Simon Cowell recently announced that his Idol-esque show The X Factor will also employ Facebook voting; now that he’s been beaten to the punch, is it time for him to storm the offices of 19 Entertainment and hurl a computer, Eduardo Saverin-style?
