Green-lit CW Pilots Feature Angels, Detectives, and Zombies

A crapload of pilots got green-lit by the networks Tuesday: ABC has new shows in the works from Steven Spielberg, Marc Cherry, Darren Star, and Lost vets Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, Lorne Michaels has a half-hour at NBC written by former SNL scribe Emily Spivey, but as usual, the CW has some of the zanier concepts — as in zombies! And angels! And a show from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage! Here’s what the Gossip Girl network just said yes to (plotlines supplied by the CW).

Awakening: Two sisters come of age and face off against one another amidst the beginning of a zombie uprising. The writers are William Laurin & Glenn Davis.

Hart of Dixie: Culture shock awaits a young New York City doctor after she inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters. Leslie Gerstein is writing via Schwartz and Savage’s Fake Empire production banner. (The company also just snagged a pilot order at ABC for their D.C.-set soap Georgetown.)

Cooper and Stone: Two smart young female detectives on Chicago’s North Side are best friends, equally adept at discussing fashion, music, pop culture as they are solving homicides. Laurie Arent writing.

Heavenly: A dedicated young female attorney and a former angel, Dashiel Coffee, only recently turned human, tackle cases at her legal aid clinic - she saves clients’ butts while he saves their souls. As an angel, Dash never experienced feelings or emotions, and his “awakening” is a big part of the series, sometimes to hilarious effect. Richard Hatem (Supernatural) is writing.
