Spider-Man Hit With State Safety Violations

The New York State Department of Labor has issued two safety violations against Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark as a result of accidents last year. (Specifically, the time Christopher Tierney fell more than twenty feet, and the time performers were injured while rehearsing a slingshot technique.) There’s no financial penalty, but the show’s producers are required to continue following safety protocols put in place in December, and state officials plan to perform unannounced inspections. If any safety measure isn’t being followed, the inspectors are authorized to withdraw variances issued allowing aerial sequences of actors flying over the audience, scaring them half to death. [NYT]
