Despite Label Woes, Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers Is a Hit

Lupe Fiasco has spent the majority of Lasers’ promotional cycle telling anyone who will listen that he hates the music industry, he’s ambivalent about his new album, and he’s still not quite over the fact that his label, Atlantic, kept him on the shelf for so long. (Here he is, speaking with Vulture: “To be blunt, I don’t really give a fuck. I’ve grown very distant from the business, very numb to it.”) And yet, despite all that, Lupe now has the biggest hit of his career on his hands: Lasers is slated to move roughly 240,000 units, good for No.1 on the Billboard 200 next week and for the biggest single sales week Lupe’s ever had. Hooray, happy ending! [Billboard]
