The Science Channel Wrests An Idiot Abroad Away From Sky1 for Season Two

The Science Channel has ordered up a second season of An Idiot Abroad independently of Britain’s Sky1, becoming a producer of the show in the process. The first season was produced for Sky1 and then aired in the US on The Science Channel (soon to be known simply as “Science,” somewhat confusingly). USA! USA! USA!

“It’s great because we can bring the power of Science and (Science owner) Discovery and help them craft some of the biggest, boldest ideas,” says Science executive vice president and general manager Debbie Myers. “The fun part is the topic — bucket lists. There’s no limit to what we can brainstorm, and they’re digging in.”

While the first season had Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant sending the misanthropic Karl Pilkington around the world to visit the seven wonders, season two will have him checking off a bucket list of things to do before he dies. And since Science (Channel) is producing, they’ll have a hand in where he goes:

As long as his bucket list doesn’t involve only going to science museums and observatories, I think it’ll be OK. No word on when the next season will air. [via]
