Peter Jackson has hired Andy Serkis — a.k.a. the dude who plays Gollum via performance-capture technology — to direct the second unit on both The Hobbit 1 and 2. Serkis, whose directing experience has mostly been in the field of performance-capture video -game shoots, says, “I think I understand Peter’s sensibility and we have a common history of understanding Middle Earth.” Anyway, Gollum’s in charge now, people — get used to it.
