
Hop, starring James Marsden and an array of adorable talking animated bunnies and chicks, took the top box office spot this weekend, raking in more than $38.1 million. Following far behind was Jake Gyllenhaal’s Source Code, with $15 million. The haunted-house-with-a-twist film Insidious, made by the producers of Paranormal Activity, took in $13.5 million. Rounding out the top five: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, based on the book series of the same name, and Limitless, which posted a $9.4 million take in its third weekend.
The biggest loser? Zach Snyder’s Sucker Punch, which dropped to seventh place in its second weekend, raking in only $6.1 million this weekend. Overall, this weekend’s box office was down 30 percent over last year’s numbers. [HR]
