Ever since Christopher Nolan brought his Inception co-stars Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt onto The Dark Knight Rises, speculation has been rampant about which roles they might play. Was Cotillard in the mix for Talia al Ghul? Might Gordon-Levitt play the villainous Holiday Killer? None of the above! Today, in a press release announcing that deals for both actors had closed, Warner Bros. revealed that Cotillard will play potential love interest Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member, while Gordon-Levitt is John Blake, “a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.” In other words, they’re totally new characters invented by Nolan, and their costume fittings are going to be way less fun than Anne Hathaway’s.
