ABC’s New Fall Schedule: The Alphabet Brings the Dramas and Starts a New Comedy Night

Now it’s ABC’s turn to announce its 2011–2012 lineup. The network has a whole bunch of new shows, and many of them are waiting in the wings for mid-season. For the fall, Charlie’s Angels gets a nice pre-Grey’s spot on Thursdays. (Shonda Rhimes’s new show, Scandal, isn’t on the schedule yet, keeping Thursdays from being an all Shonda affair.) Fairy tales are real series Once Upon a Time and Christina Ricci’s period stewardess drama Pan-Am will hammock Desperate Housewives on Sunday nights. And new Hamptons-set drama Revenge will air at ten on Wednesday. ABC will start a new comedy night on Tuesday (which will counter-program against Fox’s Glee), with Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing and Man Up airing from 8 to 9. When Dancing with the Stars goes on hiatus in December, Cougar Town and James Van Der Beek’s Apt 23 will join those sitcoms, giving the alphabet a full night of comedy on Tuesday until Dancing returns in March. Suburgatory joins the Wednesday night comedy line up at eight-thirty, and Happy Endings will get the plum post–Modern Family spot. Cougar Town will begin some time mid-season. Other mid-season shows that haven’t been scheduled yet include some high-profile ones: Good Christian Belles, Ashley Judd as a mother hunting for her son in Missing, The River, and Shonda Rhimes’s Scandal are the additional dramas, and the Bosom Buddies–ish Work It is the additional sitcom.
