Given the timing, how likely is it that Paramount execs were literally dangling a pen over Melissa McCarthy’s hockey movie pitch until the Bridesmaids weekend box office came in? 100%? 800%? In the new Paramount Pictures comedy, the best part of Bridesmaids is teaming up with Bridesmaids co-writer and nervous flyer Annie Mumolo on an untitled Stanley Cup caper movie. Or as Deadline put it, “when your husband is ill and his doctors are out of ideas, piling in the minivan with your pals to steal the Stanley Cup is one way to go.” The film was conceived by McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone, who is, let’s say, the fourth best part of Bridesmaids, which is still saying a lot.
