Patrick Dempsey says in this month’s Italian Vanity Fair that he won’t be returning to Grey’s Anatomy after next season. “It will be my last,” Dempsey says. “I don’t know what will happen with the other characters, but for me, it’s done.” Ellen Pompeo has also hinted that she’s looking to leave the show when her contract expires at the end of the eighth season, so perhaps her Meredith and Dempsey’s Derek could ride off into the sunset together. Dempsey’s been looking to leave Grey’s for a while now, but adding insult to McDreamy injury, he says he won’t be doing any more romantic comedies, either.
