A Dance With Dragons Review: ‘Readers Should Brace for a Beating’

The first review is in for the much-anticipated A Dance With Dragons, George R.R. Martin’s latest installment in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series. It sounds promising! “Even ostensibly disillusioned fans will be caught up in the interweaving stories,” says Publishers Weekly, though the recurring themes of the book mean that “readers should think strategically, be patient as the story grows, and brace for a beating.” Dance is a lot like its predecessor, A Feast for Crows, and “takes place over a similar time frame,” but this book focuses on fan favorites Daenerys, Tyrion, and Jon Snow. “More characters are revived than killed off and more peace accords signed than wars declared,” the review says, “but the heart-hammering conclusion hints that the next installment will see a return to the fiery battles and icy terror that earned the series its fanatic following.” [Publishers Weekly]
