I truly believe that once society reaches a state of complete utopian equality, once we’ve eradicated racism, sexism and every division between the members of the human family, we will basically have two things left to laugh at: farts and falling down, not necessarily in that order. Three if you count poop as separate from farts, which I often do. In Louis C.K.’s Daily Show interview, Louie breaks down the elements that make a fart the most naturally hilarious thing in the world: 1) it comes out of your ass, 2) it smells like poop, and 3) it makes a little trumpet noise. Having based the Louie season premiere on a gigantic fart, C.K. rationalizes, “You don’t have to be smart to laugh at farts, but you have to be stupid not to.”
