Filming has barely begun on The Hunger Games, but Lionsgate executives are already bullish on the franchise — in fact, they’ve promised investors that they’ll be able to wring four movies out of Suzanne Collins’s trilogy of books. Though Lionsgate hasn’t yet revealed exactly how that will happen, speculation is that the final book, Mockingjay, will be divided into two movies. The Harry Potter and Twilight franchises also doubled up on their final installments, but in the case of The Hunger Games, is this a good idea that will preserve faithfulness to the source material or a blatant cash grab by a studio hoping to milk its new blockbuster-in-waiting?
