Some Dude Wrote Ferris Bueller 2 and God Help Us All

Of all the movies that really don’t need a sequel, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is near the top of the list. 25 years later, why would we need to check in on some high school kids who skipped school for a day and had some fun adventures? What could these now-middle-aged folks possibly be up to that would make it worth dragging a near-perfect classic through the ringer for? Well, here’s Arizona-based screenwriter Rick Rapier’s pitch: Ferris is a motivational speaker, and he really needs another day off. And he already has a 105-page script completed.

Yes, Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off exists on paper, and Rapier claims that “big name production companies that have first-look production deals with Paramount are reading the script.” Hoo boy. Don’t believe me? The first 12 pages are online, featuring an older Ferris bickering with an older Cam on a private plane. I’d like to say this is so ridiculous as to be funny, but the way studios are willing to do pretty much anything to latch onto an established brand and avoid original ideas, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this actually get made. And that’s not a very funny thought. [via]
