Is HBO’s Nudity Too Gratuitous?

Game of Thrones had its chatty characters disrobe so many times during the first season that it generated an entire “sexposition” slideshow, but L.A. Times television critic Mary McNamara hopes that when the show comes back next year, that trend will go bust. “Maybe it’s time to tone down the tits,” she advised HBO in an editorial this past weekend; in response, Salon’s Matt Zoller Seitz defended the show’s bare moments and noted, “Neither McNamara nor other critics editorializing about supposedly excessive nudity and sex on Game of Thrones ever say so much as one measly word about the intensely graphic violence and raunchy language on the series.” True enough! But what’s your take on the issue? Do you roll your eyes when the umpteenth actress or buff hunk strips down on Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and True Blood, or do you think some of these pundits are just being prudes?
