Rilo Kiley have been on hiatus while singer Jenny Lewis and guitarist Blake Sennett pursue their side projects, but now Sennett says the band has officially broken up — and it wasn’t amicable. “I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to,” Sennett told the U.K. music site Spinner. “I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore.’” Sennett doesn’t even like the band’s last album, 2007’s Under the Blacklight. “I don’t think it was our best record by far,” he said. “Like, ‘Dejalo’ and ‘15’ — I didn’t like those songs. They’re OK, but we have a ton of old tracks that are better than a lot of the stuff that did make the record.” Still, Sennett hopes there will be one more Rilo Kiley album filled with the songs the band never released (and probably no “Dejalo” remixes, we’re guessing).
