google's taking over the world

Google TV Launching in Europe Next Year

Ever turn on the TV and just want to quickly check if Breaking Bad is coming on or what channel is showing a marathon of feel-good romantic comedies to veg out to? Well, that’s what Google TV is trying to do, making television searchable. It certainly beats scrolling through hundreds of channels just to find that nothing interesting’s on. The service, which requires a small set top box, is going to begin rolling out in Europe in early 2012, Google’s Eric Schmidt announced at this weekend’s Edinburgh International TV Festival. American broadcasters are still resisting the company’s plans, however, so we might have a couple more years of prehistoric channel-surfing ahead of us. [Deadline]
