No host, no problem. This year’s edition of the Video Music Awards broke all records for MTV: Not only was it the highest-rated VMA telecast ever, it was the biggest audience for anything in the network’s history. 12.4 million total viewers tuned in last night to check out Jo Calderone and Babyoncé, which made the VMAs the No. 1 cable telecast of the year in the 12-34 demo, as well as this year’s biggest non-sports cable telecast in total viewers. In response, expect the newly encouraged MTV to schedule even more non-music programming.
