Reportedly, Harvey Weinstein’s latest movie, Butter, has been getting mixed reviews, which might be the reason he canceled all of its initial media and industry screenings at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, along with a press conference that was supposed to take place on Tuesday. According to the L.A. Times, when the movie finally had its premiere at the festival last night, Weinstein made a “blatant effort to make [Butter] into something people will be talking about” by bringing up everyone’s favorite subject: Republicans. Prior to the big showing of the political satire, star Olivia Wilde got up and read a statement by Weinstein (even though he was in the theater). In it, the producer “formally invited” Michele Bachmann “to co-host with me the big premiere of Butter in Iowa in a few months from now … I know Michele will already be in Iowa for the caucus, so we can save some money on airfare and travel.” And what if Michele somehow doesn’t make it Iowa? He added: “I would of course be more than happy to fly in the other leading members of the tea party movement to make an entire day of it.” That guy, always covering all the bases. [24 Frames/LAT]
