It’s official (-ish)! According to Deadline, Eddie Murphy has accepted Brett Ratner’s entreaties to host the Oscars, and an official announcement will be made shortly. It’ll be Murphy’s first time slinging jokes on a stage in decades, and if the idea of him hosting an Oscarcast seems at odds with the former star of Raw and Delirious, it shouldn’t. “I think my cool and edge are gone,” he admitted to Vulture last year. “You know, I think I’m onto some other place. Whatever my edge or cool was back then, I’m onto some other area. I don’t know what it is.” Still, he ended that conversation with a prescient tease: “You know, I’m thinking about getting into stand-up, to see what comes up!” Looks like we’ll all find out soon. UPDATE: And the statement just went out. It’s a done deal. [Deadline]
